Position Overview
The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for three (3) Casual (hourly) Clinical Research Therapist(s). This Fixed Term Casual - Hourly position (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
The Clinical Research Associate will act as a study therapist for projects involving psychiatric clinical populations and/or drug interventions (cannabinoids, psychedelic compounds) with psychotherapy. This individual will mainly support a clinical trial exploring the effectiveness of psilocybin for the treatment of alcohol use disorder with the opportunity to support additional studies.
Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate patient schedules and study protocol (i.e., 6-8 hour dosing session followed by a 2 hour psychotherapy session the following day).
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Provide psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy according to a protocol-based, structured manual
- Facilitate preparatory work (e.g., a total of 8hrs over a period of 2-3 weeks) with a participant to build trust and rapport and discuss meaningful aspects of the participant’s life prior to medication administration
- Educate study participants on the investigational compound, including potential side effects, duration of effects, and expectations during drug administration sessions
- Together with a co-monitor, support study participants during drug administration sessions (up to 8hr sessions)
- Facilitate subsequent therapy sessions at weekly intervals after drug administration according to protocol
- Maintain accurate and complete patient clinical care documentation and adhere to study protocol at all times
